Neha, Kishore and Diya were three bright students -full of hopes ,passion and purpose -stepping into the world of medical and allied health education, just like countless others across India and beyond  .

Neha

Neha on her first day at a medical college in a city stood near the anatomy block – her white coat neatly folded in her bag eyes sparkling with the dream of becoming a doctor. She imagined herself caring for the sick, making her parents proud, and serving the community. But just eight months later, she returned to her hometown in silence . The combination of information overload, cutthroat competition, language barriers in lectures, and a toxic hostel environment had crushed her confidence. She left not because she lacked potential—but because no one noticed her slipping away.

Kishore

Kishore, the first in his village to clear NEET, had celebrated his MBBS admission to one of the top medical colleges  like a wedding—his entire community bursting with pride.  Coming from a school where medium of instruction was in his native language he found it hard to adjust to English textbooks, fast-paced lectures, and peer conversations filled with urban slang  . Despite his sincerity, he struggled to keep up. The insecurity of failing two subjects in his first year, coupled with whispers about his background with inability to adjust and cope, made him withdraw further. Two years later, he wasn’t just academically behind—he was emotionally shattered, doubting if he ever truly belonged in this world of doctors

Diya

Diya a bright and soft spoken student from North India came to a city in South India for her BSc in medical imaging . She was excited to experience a new city, meet new people, and build a life of independence. But her classmates would speak in languages she couldn’t follow, subtly exclude her from group projects, and joke about her food and accent. Lecturers often overlooked her in practicals. Alone in a crowded library, with an open book and a heavy heart, she realized that being intelligent wasn’t enough when you felt invisible every day..

The stories are not just ficitional , though their names are  . They are realities unfolding in medical colleges across India every day.Neha,Kishore & Diya are not isolated cases, but  reflect a national and global crisis—one that we’ve witnessed over and over again in our 15+ years as doctors, educators, researchers, and certified mental health mentors.

Week after week, headlines remind us of young medicos lost to burnout, depression, anxiety—and sometimes, tragedy. We realized this isn’t just about academic difficulty—it’s about the absence of structured emotional scaffolding, lack of early intervention, and the stigma around seeking help in the healthcare education system.

So we asked ourselves:

  • What if we could intervene before the breaking point?
  • What if mental health support and stress management programmes were foundational—not optional?
  • What if we could build a safe, research-driven space for growth where students aren’t just surviving—but thriving…thriving beyond survival in adversity….

And that’s how CopeMeds was born.
