Dr. Vijayalakshmi I. Balekundri is a renowned Pediatric Cardiologist, Professor Emeritus, and former Head of Pediatric Cardiology at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Bengaluru and retired prof of Bangalore Medical collage and research Institute With over five decades of service in clinical, academic, and preventive cardiology, she has received more than 60 prestigious national and international awards, including the Rajyotsava Award, Karnataka Padmashree, Basava Seva Ratna & Basava Bhushana Prashasti, World Congress 2008 – Lifetime Achievement Award in Clinical & Preventive Cardiology (Presented by Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam)  and international honors from the American College of Cardiology. As the first woman President of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography and a mentor to hundreds of cardiologists, her contributions have shaped the field of pediatric cardiology in India and beyond.
